122nd Semi-Annual Meeting a success as members look at their business from the customers point of view

December 6, 2004 -  ADMA held its 122nd Semi-Annual Meeting at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida, November 14-18, 2004.  The business sessions offered during the meeting gave the attendees an opportunity to “Walk a mile in their customer’s shoes.”   The educational session at the 122nd meeting featured Brian Finnegan, President, Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA) who discussed “Taking the Supplier/Customer Relationship to the Next Level.”  Mr. Finnegan’s program focused on how distributors and manufacturers can work together to improve supply chain efficiencies and identify better ways to service the aviation maintenance customer.  At the end of the Thursday business session, ADMA presented Mr. Finnegan with a donation in the amount of $1,500 to go to PAMA's Educational Foundation (PAMF).

ADMA moves to one meeting a year in 2006

December, 2004 - ADMA Headquarters - During the Board Meeting held at the 122nd Semi-Annual Meeting it was decided that ADMA would move to a one meeting a year format starting in 2006.  What does this mean for 2005?  The Spring Meeting scheduled for Fort Lauderdale, Florida, May 15-18, 2005 will be the LAST Spring Meeting for ADMA.  This Board decision was made to be conscious of members' budgets and time constraints.  The Planning Committee is looking forward to a real celebratory atmosphere in Fort Lauderdale (home of our new President George Maxwell) as we say farewell to the Spring Meeting.

seven steps to improving distribution productivity

November, 2004 - NAW SmartBrief -  Consulting firm Tom Zosel Associates has identified seven key principles it believes can help shippers improve distribution productivity:

  • Start with individual accountability.
  • Build standards based on the right methods and procedures.
  • Productivity can be improved through software or engineering, or both combined.
  • Focus management's attention on the details.
  • Train operators and supervisors for success.
  • Incentives can work, but only if done well.
  • Utilize formal change management teams and techniques. Logistics Today

update on fcc fax ban legislation

December 2004 - NAW Government Relations Committee -  As you may know, we were not able to get S. 2603 out of the Senate before they adjourned.  However, the Congress did NOT adjourn sine die, and are scheduled to return for a few days of additional session starting December 7th.  Presuming that session does take place, we still have one last chance to get our bill passed.  To briefly recap:

The House passed H.R. 4600 in the summer, and has been waiting for the Senate to act on the companion bill, S. 2603.  When the Congress adjourned before the election, S. 2603 -- with an agreed-to Smith/Hollings amendment -- had been “hotlined” by the Republican and Democratic Leadership.  Senator Barbara Boxer of California objected to consideration of the bill, and since unanimous consent was required to pass it, her objection prevented action.  When the Senate reconvened after the election, we continued to work with Senator Boxer to address her concerns about the bill.  A further amendment was agreed to by all parties which will require that fax numbers used to send unsolicited commercial faxes under the “existing business relationship” exception will have to be obtained either from the owner of the fax number, or from a public source like a directory or a web site.  The amendment “grandfathers” all business fax numbers now being used so you would not have to prove how you obtained them, but does not “grandfather” residential faxes.  S. 2603 as modified was again “hotlined”, and as far as we know there were no objections from any senator.  Even though we do not believe there are any further substantive objections to S. 2603, it did not pass the Senate.  Unfortunately, our bill got caught up in an unrelated procedural dispute between the Senate and House Committee Chairmen.  NAW will keep you updated on the progress.

adma holds strategic planning session to identify future direction of association

December 2004 - ADMA Headquarters-  While in Orlando for the 122nd Semi-Annual meeting, the ADMA Board of Directors made the most of their time together and held a Strategic Planning Session to help shape the future direction of the association to better serve its members.  The session was moderated by Marcia Poell Holston.  One of the topics discussed were the Distributor Membership Eligibility Requirements.  The Board realized that these requirements needed to be reviewed to ensure that they are still applicable to today's modern aviation distributor.  The board will convene a special meeting in January to review the eligibility requirements and the results of the Strategic Planning Session.
